Conservatives – tackling Telford’s ongoing and costly litter problem

Tuesday February 6, 2007

To highlight the problems of litter in Telford, Theresa May, Shadow Leader of the House of Commons, met with Tom Biggins, Telford Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman, and Conservative councillors on a group "litter pick" in Madeley.

Tom Biggins said:" Litter is a long-term problem. There are some areas in Telford, particularly in the evening, where all sorts of litter is strewn around. Not only does it look awful, but it spoils the whole area. It also costs the local Council - and hence the local ratepayer - a lot of money to clean up.

“Looking after our environment is so important and all of the community has a responsibility in this,” he added.

“The simple message we want to get over is ‘don't throw litter on the ground’. ‘Take it home with you and let’s make the whole of Telford a cleaner, better area to live in.”

Later in the day Theresa May visited the Thomas Telford School with Tom and spoke to a number of the school’s sixth formers about her work for the Conservative Party.
