Telford is a two horse race

Sunday September 6, 2009
Election results over the last three years have confirmed a major swing from Labour to the Conservatives. Telford has always been considered a Labour stronghold - BUT THAT HAS NOW CHANGED.

The General Election here will be a two horse race between Labour and the Conservatives, with the other parties – such as the LibDems - not in contention and unable to win in Telford.

Recent Conservative wins
  • May 2007- Conservatives out-polled Labour in Telford’s local elections and took control of the Telford and Wrekin Council for the first time ever.
  • November 2007 - Conservatives won a seat from Labour in the Brookside by-election.
  • March 2008 - Conservatives gained a seat from the Independents in the Horsehay and Lightmoor by-election.
  • June 2009 - Conservatives topped the poll in the European Elections in Telford and Wrekin with Labour pushed into third place.
