Local man selected as candidate – 11th November 2006

Monday November 13, 2006

Tom Biggins, was unanimously adopted by Telford Conservative Association as their Parliamentary Spokesman, at a meeting held in Madeley on Saturday (11th. November 2006).

Peter Forgham, Association Chairman said: “Tom is a true blue Salopian, born and bred in the county, and is a local businessman currently serving on Shropshire County Council. It was therefore entirely appropriate that a few years ago, when together with his father, he created the first new British cheese for several generations. It was named Shropshire Blue.”

Tom said: “I am delighted to have been selected. As someone who has lived all my life in Shropshire I am determined to speak out for the interests of local people in Telford. I care passionately about the local NHS, the education of our children, reducing levels of crime, improving pensions and public services and caring for the environment.

“My main priority is to improve everyone’s quality of life. That’s why I will stand up and fight to support the interests of the local economy and to protect jobs in Telford.”

Tom is 46 years old. After going to school locally in Shropshire, he became the third generation to join the family firm of Cheese Factors, based in Whitchurch.

He has been a school governor and has been actively involved with Age Concern. Over the years Tom has been a great champion of local issues in Shropshire, and has campaigned against the cuts in the Health Service, in particular proposed cuts to paediatric services.
