Illegal immigrant fiasco

Thursday March 12, 2009
Tom Biggins has expressed his utter outrage at the Home Office and their prolonged handling of the deportation of an illegal immigrant from Telford.

“In an open and shut case of deception and false entry to Britain, the experience has served to demonstrate, without any shadow of a doubt, the utter shambles of our immigration system, and the real extent of Labour’s ‘open door approach’,” says Tom.

“This government has failed to manage the system effectively, allowing people to enter the country under false pretences. Over the last 11 years, an estimated 570,000 people have entered Britain illegally and are still here.

“We have all read how Labour have lost hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants and the authorities have no idea where

they are. When one is brought to their attention, as in this case, they are reluctant to take any action,” points out Tom.

When the illegal immigrant, a man from Pakistan, was brought to the attention of the UK Border Agency [UK immigration service], initially they were not interested. The man was later arrested by Telford police who found him in possession of the passport and driving licence of a dead person. Court proceedings followed, and in 2008 the immigrant was found guilty at Shrewsbury Crown Court of possessing stolen goods, for which he was given an eight-month prison sentence.

“Officers of the UK Border Agency have told me repeatedly that the immigrant would be deported after he had served his sentence,” says Tom. “But this has so far failed to happen and he remains detained in custody.

“What example does this set? The Labour government keep telling us how they are cracking down on illegal immigrants. That is simply not the case.”
