Conservative's champion for recycling visits Telford

Friday November 16, 2007

Tom Biggins, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Telford, along with Sean Kelly, Borough Councillor for the Ketley and Oakengates Ward, met with Greg Barker MP, Shadow Minister for the Environment, to update him on the current recycling facilities available in Telford.

Sean pointed out: "The Council is working hard to increase the volume of household waste that is recycled. At the end of the day it is important that every household plays its part in reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill."

Tom added: "I am very pleased to see that at Ketley there are containers to receive plastics for recycling. This is so essential as otherwise this waste would go directly into the ground and would take hundreds of years to degrade. With more and more plastic packaging being used today, I am pleased to see that the Telford and Wrekin Council are providing these facilities."

Over the next twelve months one of my missions is to help improve further local recycling facilities and raise awareness of the need to use them."
