Local elections
Over 34 years of Labour domination of the Telford and Wrekin Council came to an end on 3rd May 2007 when the Conservatives ran away with six extra Council seats and became the new administration.
On polling day for the local government elections the Conservatives took control of the Council as a result of key wards being won. Seats gained included:
- Graham Hossell - Cuckoo Oak
- George Ashcroft - Brookside
- Sean Kelly - Ketley and Oakengates
- Jayne Greenaway - Lawley and Overdale
- Richard Tyler - The Nedge
- David Wright - Madelely
They join existing sitting Conservatives Councillors - Ian and Veronica Fletcher (Priorslee), Joy Francis (Ketley and Oakengates) and Tracey Hope (Horsehay and Lightmoor).
“This is a significant win for Telford Conservatives,” announced Tom Biggins, Parliamentary Spokesman for Telford. “We polled more votes than Labour in the local elections; this is the first time that it has happened in Telford. Great credit goes to the Conservative candidates for all the hard work they put in.
“We are absolutely delighted with the local response and are now putting into place common sense policies for Telford.”
