I would like to take the opportunity to thank those in Telford who voted Conservative on May 6th and to express my considerable gratitude for all of the terrific support given by volunteers throughout my election campaign and on polling day. We almost succeeded in "turning Telford blue" and gave Labour a huge fright in doing so.From a Labour majority of 5,407 in 2005, we succeeded on May 6th in reducing the Labour majority to only 978, which has put Telford amongst the top 12 most marginal Labour seats in the country. We increased the Conservative vote from 11,100 to 14,996 achieving a swing of 6.3%. I am sure that at the next General Election, the Conservative Party will take Telford from Labour. But before then we have the very important Local Elections for Telford & Wrekin Council to be held in May 2011. We will be fielding candidates in every ward in Telford and hope to build on the considerable Council successes of 2007. Over the last four years everyone has seen the benefits of a Conservative administration that has consistently set a low Council Tax by providing 'value for money' services and has set about regenerating areas such as Woodside, Sutton Hill, Ironbridge, Madeley, Oakengates and Randlay, amongst others, after 34 years of neglect. We want to continue this transformation. If you want to be part of the success story and want to be considered as a potential Conservative candidate, please get in touch.
